SCILAB Software-The Free Software for Numerical Computation!
Scilab is a scientific software package for numerical computations providing a powerful open computing environment for engineering and scientific applications.
Scilab is an open source software.
Since 1994 it has been distributed freely along with the source code via the Internet. It is currently used in educational and industrial environments around the world.
Scilab is now the responsibility of the Scilab Consortium, launched in May 2003. There are currently 18 members in Scilab Consortium (Phase II).
Scilab includes hundreds of mathematical functions with the possibility to add interactively programs from various languages (C, C++, Fortran…).
It has sophisticated data structures (including lists, polynomials, rational functions, linear systems...), an interpreter and a high level programming language.
Scilab features
Scilab has been designed to be an open system where the user can define new data types and operations on these data types by using overloading.
A number of toolboxes are available with the system:
•2-D and 3-D graphics, animation
•Linear algebra, sparse matrices
•Polynomials and rational functions
•Interpolation, approximation
•Simulation: ODE solver and DAE solver
•Scicos: a hybrid dynamic systems modeler and simulator
•Classic and robust control, LMI optimization
•Differentiable and non-differentiable optimization
•Signal processing
•Metanet: graphs and networks
•Parallel Scilab
•Statistics
•Interface with Computer Algebra: Maple package for Scilab code generation
•Interface with Fortran, Tcl/Tk, C, C++, Java, LabVIEW
•And a large number of contributions for various domains.
SCILAB has brought us not only powerful functions in scientific computing, but also its free spirit of open source. At present, Scilab Consortium is devoted to promoting the open source software to the world, particularly in China. The free spirit of open source software and technology makes far-reaching sense to China's software industry in terms of liberalization from the international commercial software companies. Therefore, research institutes and government organizations concerned in China and France have co-developed and been supporting SCILAB activities in China. Evidences would show that SCILAB promotion in China has set up a link between researchers in both China and France, and provides the opportunities for Chinese researchers, engineers and students to study and to express their talent by means of competition and communication with industrial partners in both countries. Since 2002, the SCILAB competition has been arranged in China once a year under the auspices of LIAMA, SCILAB university partners, and INRIA in France. The six annual events were held in Shanghai, Xi'an, Xiamen, Wuhan, Hangzhou, foshan and Liuzhou respectively.
2009 Scilab Contest will be held in will be held in September 18-20, 2009, in Tianjiabing Building multifunctional conference centre of Guizhou Normal University, Guiyang, city of forest, the capital of Guizhou province, located amid the inland southeastern area, China Excellent City of Tourism.
